In Saturday's debate, Ted Cruz trickily "slip-slided" past his cruel deportation plan. When
people really knew the real substance of it, compassionate people will
be appalled at the evil of it. Hillary (or whoever) will make sure to
expose the horror, which is just one reason why Cruz can't win the
general election. Go Marco!
Note: a questioner asked for clarification on that. Here's my response:
1.
Cruz has dug in his heels, to say that under no circumstances would he
have a path to legalization for current illegal immigrants.
2. That leaves two choices: (1) deport them, including those who were brought here as children, and parents of children
born here, who are U.S. citizens! This would entail huge problems with
uprooting families, pulling people out of their jobs, and harming
employers and the economy.
(2) The other choice is
to simply leave them in an illegal state, never dealing with the problem
at all. Cruz himself, in 2013, said he wanted to bring them "out of the
shadows", meaning that they did not have to fear the law (i.e.,
legalize them). He now swears he never said that, even though we have it
on video. I disrespect him for that weaseling, but what are you going
to do?
In any case, he has chosen the first option,
to deport them. A grown woman came to one of his rallies in Iowa, scared
to death because she was brought here as a child, and asked Cruz if
even she would be deported under the circumstances. His chilling answer,
with no evident compassion at all, was, "Hey, breaking the law has
consequences." I half expected him to handcuff her and then in turn her
over to ICE authorities.
But he continues to
criticize the boogeyman of "amnesty", using it as a cuss word, while
hiding the real horror of his proposed plan.
(For the record, I completely agree with sealing the borders tight, before any legalization.)
